A Guide to Car Alarms
from:A car alarm is a device installed in a car to protect your vehicle from theft. It is designed to be activated by vibrations, tilting or touching of the car, or when special switches are tampered with. The alarm consists of a remote transmitter, wiring harness, onboard sensor device and a horn. If one of the doors, trunk or the bonnet is opened, the alarm will activate the flashlights and the siren. It works by sensing small and rapid changes in battery voltage, or by using infra red or ultrasound sensors.
A car alarm is equipped with impact sensors, radar or motion sensors, and a loud siren or sequence of tones in the 120-decibel range. It is a great criminal deterrent and helps to defend your valuables such as car stereo. There are two major types of systems: passive alarms and active alarms. Passive alarms are automatically switched on when the doors are closed and the ignition is off. If the car is opened incorrectly, the alarm will sound. Active alarms are manually activated by the user.
Car alarm accessories include input for adding trunk pin, door pin, hood pin, door sensors, air horns, tilt sensors, starter disable relays, power window control modules, trunk release modules, starter-kill protection, and output for parking light flash. The majority have door opening protection, adjustable shock sensors, LED lights, and sirens. Some of them offer extra protection against glass breakage and other intrusions into your vehicle.
The common features of today's car alarm systems are automatic rearm, ignition controlled door locks, factory alarm arm or disarm, grounded output when armed, trunk output, dome light supervision, parking light output, and car finder mode. Most insurance companies give cheap car insurance premium to customers who install approved car alarm systems.
